MiYoung Margolis
DWC Ambassador
"Dancing has always been a core part of who I am," MiYoung said. MiYoung Margolis is the Artistic Director, Choreographer, and Screen Dance Filmmaker at MiYoung Margolis Dance Collective (A.K.A. MMDC Dance Company) and the founder of the O-Jak Bridge Art and Dance Festival. She is also a board member of Dare to Dance Seattle. She began her dance journey at a young age in 1992. Growing up in Seoul, South Korea, she graduated with a BA in Dance and an MS in Physical/Dance Education. She received classical training in Ballet, Modern dance (mainly Martha Graham), and Korean Traditional Dance during her undergraduate studies at Korea National Sports University in Seoul. As a student, she performed internationally. Beyond classical styles, she learned Salsa and a couple of other dances outside the classroom at bohemian Salsa clubs in Seoul, eventually becoming a Salsa instructor. With a master's in education, she left the stage behind but continued to teach various styles such as Ballet, K-pop, Korean Traditional Dance, contemporary, and Salsa. She relocated to Seattle in 2005. After moving to Seattle, she worked with local cultural associations organizing events and spent more time teaching Ballet, K-pop, and Zumba within the community. After nearly 12 years in Seattle, she finally returned to the group format stage dance. That's when she discovered the group 'Dare to Dance Seattle' in 2017. In addition to her involvement in dance, MiYoung is a fine artist, an art curator, and the owner of Gallery B612. She is also a fashion designer at 'Seattle Aphrodite' and a technical interpreter/translator.
